Every time I open up Getty Images, this 2012 photo from Syria is on the homepage. It reminds me so much of Caravaggio’s “Deposition from the Cross.”

The caption from the Syria photo is:

“ALEPPO, SYRIA: AUGUST 20: A wounded Free Syrian Army fighter is carried to safety in the old citadel of Aleppo on August 20, 2012 in Aleppo, Syria. Government forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad had taken up sniping positions in buildings surrunding the FSA positions, confining rebel soldiers to certain areas of the city and rendering them subject to air and artillery strikes. This is so cool: Artists find evocative text-only tweets and use geolocation to take photos of the place they were taken.

The Verge has all the best Internet.

I love this to pieces - the concept and this photo in particular
